Studying abroad – There are lot of students in India who are aspiring to studying abroad. Those willing to go to foreign shores must acquaint themselves with the exams that are related to foreign study. Students may have to take these exams as a means of qualifying themselves for studying abroad certain courses. A few of the exams related to foreign study are:

Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT)

This is an entrance exam conducted in United States and couple of other countries. This exam aims to know the capabilities of those students who want to join graduate courses. This examination has two parts, first part in Maths and the second part comprises evidence-based reading and writing. The score is valid for five years. There is no limit as to the number of attempts for SAT and it is conducted in 175 countries across the globe.

Test of English As a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

A good pass percentage in this exam are required to secure a seat in a top university located particularly in a country which is predominantly English speaking. TOEFL aims to know the english understanding levels of a candidate to ensure he retains the ability to understand the lessons in the classroom which will be taught in english. This test is generally compulsory for those students who are non-native speakers. The test score is valid for two years.

Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

Candidates willing to study a post-graduate or a doctoral degree, particularly in Business must be familiar with this exam. The scores obtained in this exam are required to secure admissions in educational institutions in US and Canada.

The validity duration for the score secured in GRE is for five years. Candidates willing to write this exam must have a valid passport with them as it is one of eligibility criteria. A good point in this exam is it has no deadlines as it is conducted through out the year. Students can take write this exam more than one time in a year, but they have to wait for 21 days to make another attempt.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

This also an exam just like TOEFL which is designed to test the english understanding levels of a candidate who wants to study a degree course in a foreign land that is predominantly english speaking.

The aim of the exam is to ensure that students can comfortably follow the lessons which will be taught in english and also engage in other activities related to academics. The test is conducted in more than 130 countries and validity duration of the score in IELTS is for two years.

Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)

This is also an exam candidates aspiring to studying abroad for a post graduate degree must know about. This examination aims to test the analytical skills of the candidates through questions on analytical writing, logical and critical reasoning.

The scores obtained in the exam are accepted by over 6000 business and management educational institutions located across the globe, so candidates better focus on getting good marks in the exam. Another good news is GMAT can be taken for five times in a year, provided there is a gap of atleast 16 days in between the attempts. The scores of GMAT are usually valid for five years, though on the other hand, colleges can fix varying eligibility criteria.
